Christian Radio

As I was traveling through northern Indiana last night, I noticed something rather different. There was an over abundance of Christian Radio stations. I scrolled thought the channels and counted 9 different station. That was over the 19 total available channels (counting the Spanish speaking that I did not know if they were religious or not). That seems like a lot to me. I scrolled through again to get a sense of content and most of them where talk. Only one was music (at that time). I heard about how Christ can help your finances (Crown Ministries), change your life, solve your sexual sins, how the Bible is not a "self-help" book, and how God can guide your life path. As I was listening to all these different messages, I quickly realized how people can be  confused by people who call themselves "Christians". Last night, I could have found a radio station to suit whatever I believe  and no context for a belief system.  On one hand, I could belief God only cares about my happiness and wants me to do whatever makes me happy (from the songs on the music station). If I flip to the other station, I could listen to a hell, fire, and brim stone sermon.

I still have not been able to account for the volume of Christian radio in that area. Maybe they need more Jesus there because of the cold, snowy winters. I guess you can do a lot of mental and physical damage to your belief structure when one has to be inside so much.

Web 2.0 - Over It?

As you can imagine things are more expensive in Chicago as compared to Lexington. I have been working to get things setup there and transfered over from Lexington to Chicago. One of those things is Internet. So I am calling around getting prices. I call three companies and only one of which services our street. The other two service the streets on either side of ours, but not ours. So my only choice is Comcast and they want $60 for Internet in my house. Okay, If I lived one street over it would be $30, and I would have two other choices. I think this is ridiculous. It is impossible that it cost $30 more dollars per user to get Internet one block.
So as a result, I decided I am over the Internet. It is such a time abyss( plus I am a man of principle and a tight ass who is not paying $60 a month for Internet) . So we are going without home Internet. We will both have it at work and it is free at the library one block up the street.

Home Sweet Home!

Well, the end of the moving blitz is behind us now and life can return to some sense of normalcy. With the help of many of our Lexington friends (and especially Brad and Laura) we got settled in the frigid Chicago. I will say I don't suggest moving to the top of a three story building when it is below 10 degrees. It is a nice place located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago.
We got the Wife set up and stocked with goodies from Trader Joe's (2 miles from the house) and Uncle Dan's outdoor store (she need some cold weather pieces). She should be set to survive the cold winter (high of 1 today)

It is a nice place. It was completely refinished with top quality stuff and should be a comfortable place to live. One parting shot. On Saturday morning we went to breakfast at the Golden House of Pancakes. It is a little restaurant in the neighborhood that makes a mean western omelet. I will be a regular!
